This is a medallion that was passed down through a Croatian Family and is seeking a new caretaker. This was originally given the great grandfather who served in Regiment 53. The best information I have is that it was created in the 1890 to 1910 period. According to my research it is a Commemorative medal of "kuk" Infantry Regiment. 53. Colonel Franz Freiherr von der Trenck (Pandur commander from 1741 to 1746

SIZE: 45 mm diameter. With Randpunze "A" of the Vienna Mint. Portable, frosted silver medal. It may have been made by the Viennese Mint.

Franz Freiherr von der Trenck (Croatian: Barun Franjo Trenk) was born in 1771 in Reggio Calabrio and educated by Jesuits in Ödenburg.
At the age of 17, he entered imperial, and later Russian, military services.
At the outbreak of the Austrian War of Succession, he received permission from Maria Theresia to set up a corps of 1,000 Panduren (armed guards of Croatian noblemen in the 17th and 18th century), which grew up to 5,000 men and were distinguished by special daring, but also by cruelties.
After the peace in 1745 he was sentenced to death for various offenses and later pardoned.
He died in October 1749 in Brno.
In 1756, the military unit merged into a Hungarian regiment until 1918, when the "kuk" infantry regiment number 53 (Dankl) consisted of Agram (present-day Zagreb).
