Estate sale find, vintage Carlile Pony Farms horseshoe pony tie clip, displays nicely.
From the Summer 1957 issue of The Shamrock, The Shamrock Oil and gas Corporation, Amarillo, Texas:
The largest pony auction in the world is held
at Perry, Oklahoma, where Perry Carlile holds
three pony auctions each year. One of these auctions grossed more than a half million dollars last
year. As many as 12,000 people have attended
his 3-day sales.
Carlile, an ex-school teacher and farmer, attributes his pony business to accident. He traded
a cow for three Shetlands. From these his interest
grew and his herd was expanded.
One man, in describing the Perry, Oklahoma
sale, remarked, “ It’s more like a convention.”
The tie clip overall measures .75" X 2", approximate weight 3 ounces.
