    Kuzma Evdokimovich Grebennik ( February 5  [17],  1900 - September 22, 1974 ) - Soviet military leader. Hero of the Soviet Union (05/19/1945), Guard Lieutenant General (07/15/1957).
    In May 1919 Kuzma Grebennik was drafted into the Red Army . He was enlisted as a Red Army soldier in a separate working detachment of the 42nd Infantry Division , but did not serve in it for long and soon fell ill with typhus . After recovery, he was enrolled as a clerk in one of the volost military registration and enlistment offices of the Yekaterinoslav province. He took part in the Civil War from October 1919, when he was enlisted in the communist battalion of the 1st regiment of the Donetsk division of the Cheka . The battalion was formed in Lisichansk . From April 1920 - informant of the 455th and 456th rifle regiments in the 51st Perekop rifle division of the Southern Front . Actively participated inmilitary operations in Northern Tavria and in the Perekop-Chongar operation against the troops of General P. N. Wrangel . In 1920 he joined the CPSU (b) . He continued to serve in this division after the war.
    Since July 1922, he served in the Border Troops of the OGPU troops as secretary of the military commissar in several separate border battalions of the GPU, including, from October 1923, the Ochakovsky border battalion. Since December 1923 - studying at the Higher Border School of the OGPU of the USSR , graduated from it in September 1924.     In 1935 he graduated from the Academic Courses for the Technical Improvement of the Commanding Staff at the Military Academy of Mechanization and Motorization of the Red Army. I. V. Stalin . From July 1934 he commanded the 5th motorized rifle regiment in the same division of the NKVD of the USSR named after I. F.E. Dzerzhinsky.     After the death of the commander of the 37th Guards Rifle Division , Major General Sabir Rakhimov , in the battle near Danzig on March 30, 1945, Major General Grebennik was appointed commander of this division.
    The commander of the 37th Guards Rifle Division of the 18th Rifle Corps of the 65th Army of the 2nd Belorussian Front, Major General K. E. Grebennik, distinguished himself in the Berlin offensive . On April 20, 1945, he skillfully organized the crossing of the Oder and the capture of the bridgehead. At the same time, he himself crossed to the bridgehead with the advanced regiment for the best organization of the first most difficult actions of the units on the bridgehead. Then the division took possession of the heavily fortified settlement of Kolbittsov ( Kolbaskovo ) southwest of the Polish city of Szczecin and by May 2 fought out to the Baltic Sea northeast of the city of Rostock.     For courage and heroism shown during the crossing of the Oder River, the seizure of the bridgehead and for the skillful command of the division, by Decree No. 5569 of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of May 29, 1945, Major General Kuzma Evdokimovich Grebennik was awarded the title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the award of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Medal .     After the war, from November 1945 he commanded the 27th Guards Mechanized Division as part of the 7th Mechanized Army of the Northern Group of Forces in Poland .
    In April 1947, he was transferred to the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs and served as deputy head of the border troops of the Transcarpathian district of the Ministry of Internal Affairs troops. From December 1947 - head of the border troops of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Ukrainian District, from November 1951 - head of the border troops of the MGB of the Leningrad District.     After returning to the USSR (October 1956), General K. E. Grebennik was appointed head of the 1st Directorate of the Main Directorate of Border and Internal Troops of the USSR Ministry of Internal Affairs.
    In this position, he took part in the suppression of the Hungarian uprising in October-November 1956, in November he was the military commandant of Budapest and led the cleansing of the city from the remnants of the rebel formations and from ordinary criminals who took possession of a large number of weapons during the uprisings. By the Decree of the PVS of the USSR of December 18, 1956, he was awarded the Order of the Red Banner.
    From April 1957, he served as chief of staff - 1st deputy head of the Main Directorate of the KGB Border Troops under the Council of Ministers of the USSR , from July 1957 he was head of the KGB border troops of the South-Western Border District. Since January 1960, he temporarily served as head of the operational group of the KGB border troops under the Council of Ministers of the Ukrainian SSR. December 7, 1961 transferred to the reserve.
    He was elected a deputy of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of the 2nd (1945-1950), 3rd (1950-1954) and 5th (1958-1962) convocations.
    Lived in Kiev . Died September 22, 1974. He was buried in Kiev at the Baikove cemetery .
