    Description

You are bidding on a Russian Imperial Military Order of St Nicholas Cross.
The cross is used and is in good condition with limited signs of wear or age and has no major enamel loss of damage.
The cross is mounted on a tri color ribbon of Russia and has a wrapped brooch that has a dropdown fastener that is in good working order.
The Order of St Nicholas was planned for use in 1915, during the reign of Nicholas II to be awarded to WWI veterans & loyalist in the White Russian Movement, but was never completed due to the political unrest (Russian Revolution) in Russia at the time.
Fourteen years later the idea was again adopted by Russians living in exile and the order was founded on 19 July 1929 by a cousin to the last Czar, Grand Duke Cyril Vladimirovich (the pretender), who had assumed the title of the Emperor of Russia in 1924. The order came in two classes the first class was enameled, while the second class was not. The first-class version was awarded to officers and the second class to NCOs and junior enlisted. On 4 August 2001Grand Duke Cyril's granddaughter, and the present pretender Maria Vladimirovna raised the order to the rank of a House Order of the Imperial House of Russia and added a Grand Cross.
The order now is awarded for duty, honor, and service to the fatherland. On 14 December 2001 the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation authorized for wearing of the order by Russian military personnel.
