Double Headed Eagle Emblem Russian Brass Badge WWII Era

Double Headed Eagle Emblem Russian Brass Badge WWII.  The piece shows darkening on the brass, especially on the back.  This item was in my grandfather's box of WWII pins and ribbons.  He served in Italy during the was but traveled throughout Europe and I'm not exactly sure where he picked the piece up.  I think it was originally a uniform badge but her turned in into a pin by adding a pin backing.  Please see pictures for details and measurements.
