    Description

From the estate of a soldier that served in World War 2 under George Patton in both the Mediterranean and European Theaters.
This heavy and definitely antique brass piece looks as though it may have been attached to a vessel or other military vehicle at some point. It is solid brass and appears to have enameling in the center. On the back are multiple spots of lead where it was attached. The SMS Viribus Unitus was a Austro-Hungarian Battleship that was launched in 1911 and sunk in 1918 during World War 1. I certainly could be convinced that this is the origin of this piece. Has the coat of arms of then Emperor Franz Joseph. The words Viribus Unitus translates from Latin to English as "With United Strength". Measures 7 3/4" by 4 3/4" and is about 3/8-1/2" in depth.
This piece is part of a large estate that we will selling in the coming weeks. Lots of great historical/military items from a collector.
